Bitdefender is, at least in our experience, one of the most educated antivirus applications on the market. This not only provides fantastic protection, it also does its job quietly in the background, and you really should never notice it.

However, sometimes it blocks secure programs. This is part of ransomware protection, which looks for applications that try to modify files in their protected folders. It is not common However, if you know that the application is safe to use, you can unlock it by asking Bitdefender to stop working.

How can I prevent Bitdefender from blocking my applications?
Open the Bitdefender app yourself. You can have a shortcut on your Windows desktop or you can start it from the Start menu.

Click Application Access to display the list of blocked programs.

It is a simple case to use the toggle switch to tell Bitdefender that you want to allow changes to your protected folders. You can also modify protected folders by clicking the Protected Folders option by accessing applications.

If the program is not in the list, you can click "Add a new application to the list", then navigate to the program's executable.

The actual EXE file must be in this folder. However, if there are multiple EXE files, you may need to add them all or find out which application actually starts the application. To add it to the list, click on an EXE file, then the blue OK button.

The application is authorized to modify the files in their protected folders.

How can I prevent Bitdefender from blocking online applications?
If Bitdefender blocks an online app, there is probably a good reason for it. However, if you are sure that the performance is safe, you can add the website to a list of exceptions that Bitdefender does not scan.

To do this, see the Bitdefender Protection section for ONLINE HAZARD PREVENTION. Click Manage exceptions, then click Add exception. Copy the website URL and paste it in the box above. Make sure online threat prevention is enabled and click the blue ADD EXCEPTION button below. Your online application or website should now load normally.
