Christian Worldview
Christianity has significantly influenced my worldview. Growing up in a Christian family background afforded me the opportunity to learn about Christianity even at a young age. Learning begins at home, they say, and I can attest to this. I remember my parents talking to me when I was a child and teaching me common values adults teach children, such as being kind to other children, showing respect to adults, and obeying them, among others. The values my parents taught me were basic human values, which I later on learned were the same values incorporated in the Holy Bible. When I was at grade school, I remember attending the Sunday School and Christian camps for children during the summer. The influence of the church and my participation in Christian activities paved more opportunities for me to learn about Christianity.
At a young age, Christianity for me was all about acknowledging that God created the world and all things, and everyone in it as taught by The Creation, following the “rules of God” as stated in the Ten Commandments, fearing God, and honoring Jesus Christ as God’s son. Nevertheless, as I grew older, I learned the more complex application of the things I learned from the Bible and from listening to the advice and wise words of elders in the church. The Creation, for instance, is not only a story about God creating the world and man, but a testament to God’s power. For this reason, God deserves our respect and gratitude, because He gave us life and created a beautiful world for us to live in. As a child of God who created me, I acknowledge the fact that I should live in servitude of Him and thus, allow Him to steer my life’s direction. Moreover, God’s Ten Commandments are not merely rules to remember, but the rules to apply in our daily lives, from making decisions to interacting with others, or controlling our thoughts and taking action.
Christianity teaches us that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he went down on earth to save us all. Even after all of Jesus Christ’s sacrifices and display of power, non-believers persecuted him. Jesus Christ’s role as our savior must be the precursor to our acceptance of our sinful lives. I believe that Jesus Christ was a gift from God not only for us to know that He loves us, because he gave His son as a sacrifice, but also for us to be reminded that we are all sinners. Consequently, being a Christian means that we accept that we are sinners in God’s eyes. For us to be saved, we must not only acknowledge that we have sinned, but also acknowledge that Jesus Christ is our savior. It is important to do so because in this way, we, as Christians, should be able to acknowledge God’s sacrifices for us.
By reading the Bible, especially the New Testament, we learn about the ministry of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ traveled to talk about God and to help other people believe in his Father through His power. Jesus Christ performed miracles and taught the people about God with the help of his disciples. Nevertheless, some people never believed and punished him for it. Regardless of the pain and suffering, Jesus Christ went through, he still pushed on and remained righteous. I believe that as a Christian, I must view Jesus Christ’s life as depicted in the Bible as an example. To live righteously as a Christian, we must use Jesus Christ’s as an example, and thus, practice kindness, empathy, modesty, and love for other people.
Christianity gives me direction and this is why I value my religion. Without it, I would not know right from wrong. Apart from my parents, Christianity has taught me not only the proper way of dealing with other people, but also the proper way to live while I am still alive on earth. As a Christian, I believe that God’s purpose is my aim, because He created me and I owe my life to Him. As a Christian, I must also acknowledge not only His power, but also His sacrifices to help me. Being a Christian also means that I accept my sins and faults, acknowledge Jesus Christ as my savior, and lead a righteous life like the one he did.
