Vitiligo is a disorder that can be recognized by any dermatologist, doctor, and some lay observers. It is characterized by white patches on the fingers, knuckles, around the eyes and mouth, feet, and genitals. Other disorders inhibit or delay the production of melanin and generate skin hypopigmentation.

In these conditions, melanocytes are present in normal quantities in the epidermis, but they produce less melanin. On the other hand, other types of leukemias are characterized by the absence of melanocytes and therefore, the absolute lack of melanin. Vitiligo and lupus destroy melanocytes during life after birth, while piebaldism affects the migration of these cells during embryogenesis and the child is born with hypopigmentation of the hair and skin.

Variants of Vitiligo:

There are two types of vitiligo: unilateral also called segmental and bilateral or generalized. The segmental type is often confused with that which manifests in the dermatome but this type of manifestation is usually an exception. The bilateral type can begin at any age and tends to progress intermittently throughout life. It produces hypopigmentation with a symmetrical distribution such that a spot on the right side of the body coincides with a spot in a similar location on the left side.

Although rare, it can leave the entire body hypopigmented. The classic presentation symmetrically affects the fingers, feet, wrists, elbows, armpits, and around the mouth and eyes. Symmetry is so characteristic that it is one of the criteria for diagnosis.

Unilateral or segmental vitiligo begins most frequently in children and young adults and evolves for a limited period of 1 to 2 years until it remains static for the rest of life. It affects only one side of the body and unlike bilateral, its distribution on the skin is asymmetrical. However, the patterns are not random either and the areas affected by hypopigmentation are repetitive. Regarding the patterns on the face, some forms affect the neck and nape of the neck, which resemble each other in location and shape.

The Best Treatment of Vitiligo:

Well, like many other people around the world, if you are also suffering from Vitiligo and looking for the best vitiligo treatment, we recommend using Monobenzone cream. It is a topical depigmenting agent used in Vitiligo treatment. Its depigmentants or skin whitening-lightening agents are cosmetic products whose function is to correct some of the skin hyperpigmentation (skin spots that appear on the skin over time). This work addresses the origin of hyperpigmentation, the methods for lightening skin color, and the different depigmenting substances used.
