Quoting Saudi state-run SPA news agency, Reuters and the New York Times reported on Thursday that Kashkjie was killed at the Saudi consulate in Saudi Arabia, and that 18 people have been arrested and investigated so far.

The Saudi prosecutor explained, "The day after the incident, Kashmiri was in conversation with suspects, leading to a fistfight, which resulted in death."

After staying in the U.S. and criticizing the Saudi royal family since September last year, columnist Kashkudge went to his consulate in Istanbul to obtain necessary documents for marriage.

Since then, rumors have been raised that Saudi prince was involved in assassination, prompting the international community to seek truth.

The pro-government Turkish media, Yenishafak, reported on Thursday that Kashkugi was killed after being tortured to death on the day he visited the consulate. The Washington Post also reported on July 11 that the Turkish government informed U.S. officials that it had a voice recording and video file to back up the fact that Kashkis was killed at the consulate.

Until now, the Saudi government has strongly denied the death of Kashmiri as well as the assassination. However, the Saudi prosecution's announcement that Kashmiri was murdered on the same day is a reversal of the existing Saudi government's position, and the controversy is likely to continue.
