Custom Boxes From 100% Post Consumer Equal in Cost and Strength

Companies that ship products almost certainly have a need to purchase and use corrugated boxes. Corrugated cardboard boxes are made of Kraft paper of different weights to give strength to a cardboard box. In a typical single wall box there are 3 papers. An inner liner, a middle (fluted), and an outer liner make up the corrugated construction.
Paper comes from trees. Since trees are not a sustainable resource, recycling paper has become big business. But more than commercial demands, it is environmental demand. The recovery of paper in the waste stream has become so efficient that with modern technology, corrugated cardboard manufacturers manufacture shipping boxes with paper that is 100% post-consumer fiber.
Businesses trying to go green are always looking for ways to be more "green." Many companies know how to be "greener", but the cost is prohibitive or the end result is a diminished product or process and therefore nothing changes. Fortunately for companies using corrugated products, there is a solution that not only returns waste to the usable flow of packaging, it does so without increasing cost and without loss of performance in most cases.
Corrugated cardboard box users are concerned that recycled paper liners on corrugated sheets may not have the same strength as their 100% virgin corrugated sheet counterparts. This concern has been identified by using an edge crush test (ECT, initiated primarily for recycled paper manufacturers) versus a Mullin test (puncture). Because recycled paper fibers are shorter than virgin paper fiber, perforation has been a real concern in corrugated sheets made from recycled paper in the past.
Today, paper mills and corrugators make corrugated sheets and recycled corrugated cardboard boxes that have proven the same strength as the virgin fiber variety, and this is not limited to 200 # cardboard. Cardboard combinations are available to create cardboard proofs with cardboard strengths from 150 # to 350 #. Some of the only downsides are that they cannot liner bleached (white) paper and with high humidity or humidity the paper degrades faster than virgin paper.
Printing is not a problem with 100% post-consumer cartons either. Box converters screen and gradient screen print on recycled custom boxes, giving you the same look you would expect from a printed virgin Kraft custom corrugated box. Going even further to green the planet, most box manufacturers offer soy-based inks. Soy-based inks are more environmentally friendly than petroleum-based ones because they are made from sustainable, earth-based materials.
Don't worry about costs. In most cases, there is no cost difference between virgin fiber corrugated sheets and 100% post-consumer recycled corrugated sheets. Although some corrugators have some minimum corrugated square footage restrictions, they are minimal after all!
