Many people have heard about the binary code, it looks simple and memorable - only ones and zeros. However, all the data on your or my computer consists of it, or rather of them. All the text before your eyes, every letter with the help of this code is stored on my server. But to "show" you this text and any other is not so simple. My server must transfer the information to your browser, and the browser must understand, what codes it is dealing with. Before Unicode, a world-class standardization organization, each person stored binary codes and visualized the text in his own way. The Unicode, since the 80s of the last century, has been hard at work on a universal specification for any text characters. Their code with the same name is the modern standard for almost all languages and signs of the world. People needed a similar code, because without this it was very inconvenient before - for example, two programs for "communication" among themselves necessarily needed a some kind of translator, that made it possible to understand the necessary correlation of codes and characters. It took a lot of time.

Of course, the innovation did not come into our lives right away. The Unicode had to work hard to convince other organizations to use their standard. Many did not agree for a long time or demanded to include the codes for their systems. The heads of organizations did not want to admit, that their systems were out of date. But over time, The Unicode won, and currently the number of characters totals hundreds of thousands of instances. All familiar emojis are also text characters, and any updates to them are the work of the Unicode itself.

About characters
Back to the Unicode. Its first 128 characters are the most common. In fact, these are ordinary letters and signs, different alphabets, means, they are what you are reading now. ASCII - a table, where the binary codes are compared to these characters. However, the Unicode has a lot more characters than 128, some similar to the Latin alphabet. This makes it possible to improvise and create completely new alphabets. The most interesting thing is that such symbols are really very similar to the well-known ones, however, they can differ in shape, fat content or even be inverted. But such "creations" often have some drawbacks, as these are usually a Unicode hacks.

What is a font in general? This is a graphical set of Unicode glyphs, all or some. Those, who have ever worked in the text editors, are familiar with Times New Roman or Comic Sans. Yes, they are fonts. And in fact, they use the same letters. If you see any unusual or ornate characters, such fonts consist of separate particles. Means, all unusual letters, no matter in what position, are "read" separately.

Font Copying
You will say, for what all these smart sayings are? What is the difference, separate or not? Ha! You'll be surprised, but the difference is big. Non-self-contained characters are ASCII characters, that cannot be copied! More precisely, they can be, but there is no guarantee that, when you insert them into the Instagram’s bio or stories, you will receive the same unusual text as on the site. Means, everything is unusual and beautiful on the site, but usual, when inserted. This is because the network platform can decrypt your text in this way, and there is nothing to be done about it.

Compatibility with Instagram
By the way, an important and a bit sad warning: Instagram allows you to use not all fonts. Alas, I will not offer any chips, it simply does not support them. This social network has long been almost synonymous with the word "entertainment", so too unusual fonts do not fit into the picture of ease and quick access to information. You just want to make a fancy bio, and Instagram considers the text too “heavy” and includes a filter. I also think, that for the network itself, processing a complex information is also not very fun.
